This completely restored (2014) Italian country villa is ideally located for visitors wishing to explore northern Italy, from fashionable Milan just 50 minutes to the south to the parks and lakes in the foothills of the Alps just minutes to the north.
Immersed in 5 hectares of rolling green gardens, the Villa has 4 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms and features antique furniture and paintings, marble and parquet flooring, high ceilings and a gorgeous park.
The property is located on a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside. The locality is called “Poggio Verde” which means Green Hill. The current renovations have brought the parquet and marble floors to their original 18th c. lustre, and at the same time have added important creature comforts such as a new gourmet kitchen, air-conditioning, marble bathrooms and high-speed internet.
The luxurious villa features 4 beautifully appointed bedrooms that are furnished with beautiful 19th century wardrobes and other pieces. Bedroom 1 has two twins that are usually made up into a king bed and there is an ensuite bathroom with a shower. There are two windows, one facing the south terraces and swimming pool with lovely views toward Milan; the other window faces west, toward the expansive lawn. Bedroom 2 also has two twins that are usually made into a king and its large window has a beautiful view over the lawn. The ensuite bathroom has a shower. Bedroom 3 has a queen bed and faces the park; its very large bathroom is directly across the hall and has a bathtub/shower. Bedroom 4 faces the east and overlooks the beautiful courtyard. The ensuite bathroom has a bathtub and shower. All bedrooms are accessible by stairs or the small elevator.
Six additional bedrooms may be available in the Residenza of Poggio Verde; usually it is used if we have more than 8 people. There are four bathrooms across the hall, the dining room and the kitchen. Please note that the Residenza and the Villa are in the same building and there is a direct connecting door. Feel free to inquire.
The large and well-equipped kitchen has a marble-topped island, a gas stove, oven and microwave. It is very well-equipped for those who enjoy cooking (or a local chef can be engaged as desired). There is a grill in the small courtyard outside the kitchen and herbs and vegetables are grown just outside the kitchen, as well.
There is a comfortable breakfast or lunch room adjacent to the kitchen, as well as a beautiful formal dining area. When the weather allows, most guests enjoy dining in the “Portico Coperto” (covered porch) just outside the kitchen, with its stunning views to the south and west, especially on a clear day or evening.
The large living areas comprise a seating area that easily accommodates 12 and and an adjacent media room with a home cinema and a grand piano.
A laundry room on the 2nd floor (1st floor Italian) has a Bosch washer and dryer.
Under the Portico Coperto is a game room that contains foosball and a ping pong table and some casual furniture suitable for teenagers as well as a large fireplace and a kitchen. The bocce and badminton sets are stored in this area for easy access to the 2nd terrace.
The very large swimming pool (30m x 6m), is shared with residents and other visitors to Poggio Verde. It has recently been renovated in a way that is very family-friendly.
The lawns are expansive and comprise several levels. Exploring the lawns and woods and gardens of Villa Poggio Verde is a pleasure at any time of day.
The villa and surrounding park is located in Barzanò, a 50-minute drive to Milan, giving visitors access to world class opera and symphony at Teatro alla Scala, marvelous dining in the best of Italy’s various culinary traditions, fantastic shopping either on Montenapoleone or at the many outlets that surround the city, and is home to some of the country’s top cultural sites such as Leonardo’s Last Supper and the magnificent Duomo.
An hour to the north is the lovely Lago di Como with boating, dining, cultural and water activities in abundance. We are located right on the edge of another beautiful but little known regional park, Parco Regionale di Montevecchia e della Valle del Curone and the adorable hill town of Montevecchia, both favorites of photographers, mountain bikers, hikers and mushroom-gatherers. The drive to Switzerland takes about one hour.
A golfer’s paradise, the villa is within a 30 to 60 minute drive from nine outstanding golf courses (one of which, the Golf Club Milano, will host the Italian Open in 2015), and five other terrific courses are within an hour’s drive (see map).
The villa is 20 minutes (12 km) south of Lago di Pusiano, a great favorite of fishing fans and naturalists. This pretty, largely undiscovered lake is protected as it is located inside the Parco Naturale della Valle del Lambro, visible in the distance from one of the terraces of the house.
For gourmet food lovers, we are literally surrounded by organic farms offering the best of local produce. Cooking lessons are available for those wishing to deepen their knowledge of regional cooking traditions of Brianza. The villa is within walking distance of the one-star Michelin restaurant Pierino in Viganò; another Michelin starred restaurant, Dac a Trà, is 20 minutes away and Il Cantuccio is just 30 minutes; many other excellent dining places for foodies to explore are within easy reach and we will be happy to share other local finds with our visitors.
