Northern Italy offers magnificent golf courses with some of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe, and Poggio Verde is less than an hour’s drive from the most highly regarded courses there. One of the most magnificent, Golf Club Milano, hosted both the 2015 and 2016 Italian Open Championships. Poggio Verde and Elesta Travel “Golf and Gourmet” itinerary, ideally suited to golfers and non-golfing spouses alike, features days spent discovering the most spectacular destinations in the area and includes four 18-hole rounds or more for the golfers.
Day 1 – Arrival and Poggio Verde tour. Our driver will bring pick you up at Malpensa airport and deliver you and your luggage and clubs to the Poggio Verde Villa, your home for the week. After unpacking and a nice lunch at the villa, we will take you for a quick tour of the surrounding area so that you will get the feel of this enchanting place. To kick start the authentic Italian experience, we will have a delicious dinner in the warmth of nearby farm-to-table restaurant we love, Giovanna Passeri.
Day 2 – Golf Club Milano for a great start. After a healthy breakfast, you will head to Golf Club Milano. This beautiful course is relatively flat, but its copious trees and long fairways and location in the middle of a royal park have made it home to Milan’s most sought-after golf course, as well as location for the Italian Open two years running. Our driver will take us back to the villa where we’ll meet up with the non-golfers for cocktails on the terrace and a generous dinner of Italian cuisine will be served.
Non-golfers will enjoy a day of relaxing at the villa and visiting nearby sights, sounds and tastes of our beautiful region of Brianza. We will lunch at Dac a Tra, which features the best of Brianza.
Day 3 – Lake Como: Bellagio, Villa Balbianello. Lunch at Alle Darsene di Loppia. After breakfast, our driver will take us up the western side of Lake Lecco to the stunning village of Bellagio with views of Lake Como to the east, north and west. After a lunch by the lake at Alle Darsene di Loppia, we will walk through the beautiful gardens of the Villa Melzi along Lake Como and then take a private boat across the lake to the stunning Villa Balbianello. From there our taxi boat will take us back to Bellagio for our ride home to relax a bit before enjoying home-cooked meal together.
Day 4 – Golfing in the majestic Villa d’Este Golf Club. After breakfast, our driver will take the golfers to Villa d’Este Golf Club, a stunning course near lake Como with views of the Alps, 45 minutes from Poggio Verde. It was built in 1926 on the Como hills dominating the lake of Montorfano. In the “Gold Book” of the Club there are prestigious signatures, like King Leopold of Belgium and Queen Liliane De Rethy, Alfonso XIII of Spain, Costantino of Greece and most of the aristocratic names of Europe. This gorgeous, hilly 18-hole course with majestic views of the alps and prealps is still one of the destinations of many refined golfers. Our driver will be waiting to bring you back to the villa and end the day with a delicious dinner with the rest of our group.
Non-golfers will enjoy visit the majestic nearby Villa Agnesi Albertoni, a 17th c. marvel with views over the nearby wine country of Val Curone. We will have lunch at the delicious Galbusera Bianca in this picturesque valley.
Day 5 – Bergamo Alta hill town and Lunch at Frosio. Our driver will take us into the little town of Barzanò to the beloved pastry shop, Fumagalli, for a cappuccino and “brioche” (the yummy Italian version of a croissant) before getting on the road to Bergamo, one of the most beautiful hill towns in Italy. After visiting the stunning Renaissance and Roman sites of the city with our excellent guide, our driver will take us to the Michelin-starred Ristorante Frosio in nearby Almé for a pleasant lunch in the beautiful dining room of this 18th century villa. Heading back to our home, we will have a simple typical Italian dinner before sending ourselves to bed for a full energy recharge.
Day 6 – Last swing at Monticello. Heading north again, we will go to Golf Club Monticello, a place which brings together the spirit of this grand old sport with the colorful paradise of vast green spaces. With its two courses, Monticello Golf Club is the largest in Italy. The unique views of the Italian Alps and foothills make it a truly enjoyable experience. Back in Poggio Verde, we will have our grand finale goodbye dinner featuring a tasting of the best-loved wines in the region.
Non-golfers will end the week with a shopping day in and around Milan, exploring the Duomo, design street Corso Como, via Montenapoleone and more, with a stop for lunch at a delightful cafè nestled within the city’s medieval centre, the majestic Piazza Duomo.
Day 7 – Departure. After breakfast at the Villa our driver will take you (and your packages and your great memories!) to the airport.
